The Main Roles
Lead Producer
The visionary leader, responsible for securing the play/musical, raising all the money, overseeing marketing, and making final decisions. They’re like the CEO of a startup, starting a new company with each show.
Co-Producer
The investor, contributing financially for a share of the profits and some perks (like billing or attending meetings). Their influence depends on the Lead Producer and their own experience. They typically only profit after the show recoups its costs.
Executive Producer
The advisor, brought in by the Lead Producer for their expertise. They guide the Lead Producer in areas like business models, marketing, and creative decisions. They’re like a consultant, ensuring the smooth operation of the show.
Investor
Only investors who are accredited can invest in Broadway shows. Accredited means individuals whose individual or joint net worth exceeds $1 million at the time of investment or whose income exceeds $200,000. Investors are often accountants, lawyers, real estate developers, pharmacists, authors, actors, CEOs, doctors, and more.
